Marie-Ange Samon

My approach is that of many of my contemporaries, uncomfortable in a world in perpetual motion where everything is uncertainty, I seek my inspiration in my roots, in the universal sacred memory. For me, it's a vital resource, a quest for identity. The places from which I draw inspiration are charged with symbolism, providing me with points of reference and anchorage. Through snippets of myth, fragments of thought and sketches of stories, I hope to create a dream space.

Our lives only seem to make sense if they keep in touch with an infinite, obscure, mysterious outside from which we come and towards which we'll be heading. History is spinning out of control before our very eyes, and our mentalities are finding it hard to keep up.

For days, sometimes weeks, I carry the conception of my pieces inside me. pieces. I work without sketching, without drawing, in a way without a net. Shapes and colors respond or blend with precision, and decorative details also have an almost physical balancing function.

I'm fascinated by the transformation of clay, rolling it, bending it according to my desires, forges bonds between the ceramist and the material. Using the movements of my body, I model the clay, giving it my contours, creating my inner landscape, my imaginary dwellings.

The symbolic aspect of the boat is a subject that recurs frequently in my work: boat-universe, boat-refuge, boat-sacred, boat-temporal, junction between heaven and earth, outside and inside.

I love earth because of its memory, which has conveyed a part of the ceramists' thinking down the centuries. Fragments of ancient pottery found during a walk, a journey into the past, a journey into a life, an energy, a creativity. Continuity, permanence, a common thread, the search for a center, for the center.

A look at what you will discover.
