MYRIAM BOUCHARD

NUANCES DE FEU

First guest at Espace K

A major addition feature this year is the new Espace K, dedicated to showcasing renowned ceramic artists. The first guest artist, Quebec-based Myriam Bouchard, will present a wide range of her sculptural and functional work. She is renowned for her exceptional mastery of Anagama wood-firing techniques.

At the Centre céramique contemporaine de La Borne (CCCLB), a leading centre for contemporary ceramics and wood firing, she develops pieces shaped by flame, where the direct relationship between clay and fire creates rich, deep and unique material effects.

Myriam Bouchard will give a lecture on Saturday, July 5th at 11:00 AM. To attend, please reserve your spot by clicking the button below.

About

Myriam Bouchard

For the past 23 years, her ceramic practice has been deeply shaped by her studies and background in graphic design, which instilled in her a sense of discipline, balance, and precision in form — a critical approach that continues to evolve.

She has built her artistic and technical training alongside her peers, traveling to the United States, Indonesia, Europe, and Japan — a country whose aesthetics have greatly influenced her work.

Now based in France, her practice is profoundly nourished by the diversity of landscapes, the richness of local clays, and the fossils she discovers during her walks through the vineyards. She also finds a vital source of inspiration in her exchanges with artists from the Association des céramistes de La Borne, which brings together 80 ceramicists from 14 different countries.

She is currently working on the creation of large-scale vessels and sculptures fired in an Anagama kiln — a project that will span the next two years and culminate in a solo exhibition at the Centre de céramique de La Borne.

Through the Anagama firing process, she seeks to master the unpredictable with the determination of an alchemist, aiming to achieve exceptional effects — a harmony of form, texture, and subtle variations that only several days of firing can produce.

The artist gratefully acknowledges the support of the CALQ in her ongoing work.
