Myriam Bouchard and Fire as a Creative Partner

Ceramic artist Myriam Bouchard is our guest in Espace K, at the heart of the 1001 Pots exhibition. She will discuss her daily life in a potters’ village, La Borne in France, where she is currently based to create ceramics fired primarily in an Anagama kiln.

Through a presentation of her work, followed by a conversation with the audience, she shares her exploration of sculptural and functional forms. At the core of her practice: the relationship between clay and fire. Myriam will reflect on this alchemy of chance and control, unique to long firings, where the material is transformed by flame. An inspiring encounter to discover how fire becomes a true artistic partner.

Eco-friendly ceramic practices

Considering that eco-responsibility is not merely a topic, but rather an ethic and a mindset of curiosity, the two speakers will present their respective approaches. Cindy and Loriane aim to share ideas on water management, awareness around the origins of certain minerals, the use of alternative materials, the recycling and repurposing of ceramic waste, as well as tips to make studio testing particularly successful. Open discussions about our individual and institutional roles will help us see eco-responsibility as a culture to be developed collectively. This is why it is so important to come together and support one another in exploring the philosophical, social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainable ceramics in Quebec.
