Cecilia Mejia’s work is inspired by her Mexican roots and a search for balance between rustic and contemporary design. Her practice focuses on handmade ceramic objects that explore contrasts in texture, color, and material, allowing each piece to convey a narrative.
She works primarily with ceramics, combining handbuilding and slip casting pottery
techniques to create functional yet sculptural pieces. Each object begins with a conceptual sketch, followed by careful material selection and studio production. Her pieces are often named in Spanish as a way of honoring her cultural heritage.
Through this process, Cecilia Mejia creates objects that merge functionality and aesthetics, bringing identity and character into everyday spaces.
