My practice focuses on fabric, fibers, ceramics and digital media.
For me, pottery starts with the search for shapes. Nevertheless, from the very beginning I have in mind the surface decoration aspect. I test colors and
their combinations and make many colorful designs. From the iterations, only a handful move beyond the drawing board, after which comes the time to
take courage and transfer the designs from paper to ceramics.
My experience through the countries I have lived in has shaped my lens of the world, including aesthetic motifs, compositions, and narratives. My journeying identity is therefore embedded in my pieces as a blend of different cultures in which color plays a very important role. Bright reds, warm yellows, or calm blues spread through the surfaces, complementing the shapes.
Creating ceramics takes a lot of time. It’s very relaxing, but it can also be very demanding. Slowing down and accepting that failure is a positive step in the search for making something special and original in a world in which productivity comes first
can be overwhelming. This is also something I try to transmit through my pieces: the feeling of wanting to stop, take a pause, relax and look at them just for
the joy of it.
I believe in design as a means to help us start a happier day or to go through it with a smile. For me both functional and non functional pieces can provide us with joy and take us to a place of peacefulness and contemplation.
