Christina Julien makes pottery under the name Pas Mon Style, in Montréal, Québec. The work moves between function and play; an ongoing exploration of shapes and
how we interact with objects around us.
Drawing inspirations from philosophy, Fluxus, and the quiet teachings of clay. Each piece is made in small batches, wheel-thrown or hand built, and released in seasonal drops and occasional collaborations. The pottery wheel takes center stage in her designs, as they serve to highlight the personal interaction with the spinning wheel. Impressed spirals highlight the hypnotic effects of the spinning wheel, stackable
plates and bowls (which become their own sculpture) represent the repetition in the process of production. Besides the weight of the clay, nothing is measured,
ensuring the clay goes where it wants to and nothing is forced.
Christina also teaches, hosting Ceramical Poetry workshops meant to make pottery
approachable and meaningful to those who might otherwise feel intimidated to start.
Through movie recommendations, hypnotic process videos, and seasonal playlists, Pas Mon Style provides comfort and space to think, for curiosity, and reflection.
