I create functional gems. The chemistry of colors, the alchemy of heat, the geology of the earth—these are my sources of inspiration. I make functional pieces because I appreciate the intimacy of the human being, their unique and personal connection with such a natural material. I draw inspiration from mugs as if they were blank canvases ready to embrace all the colors I love and have access to. Ceramics can be both controlled and uncontrollable. Glazes want to move, but one must know how far to push them while respecting their limits. Natural colors are accessible, and at the same time, they blend in surprising and, above all, pleasing ways. Cézanne said he wanted to conquer the Paris Salons with paintings of apples. I want to conquer the craft fairs with “mugs.” I would like everyone to find an expression of their soul and well-being by drinking from a mug I have crafted.
