My unconventional journey includes a career in costume design for film productions, studies in social and cultural anthropology, and, later, my discovery of the ceramic arts. Shaped by my journey, my creative life lies at the intersection of art and
science. Having now swapped fabric for clay, my creations are inspired by the same principles of balance and sensuality of form and are fascinated by the intimate and symbolic relationships that unite objects and their users.
My approach is rooted in the sacralization of these everyday objects that make up the material culture of our ecosystems. The object, in its functionality, is associated with markers of time, action, and rituals. But these same objects are equally imbued with sociality, emotion,
communal living, memory, and sharing. This is how I perceive my role as a shaper—as a stranger to whom the depths of a home are opened, and into which I have the privilege of entering.
I approach my artistic explorations like an excavation, sifting through mineral materials to reveal their secrets. I am captivated by textures that evoke the dignity of the elements, the passage and wear of time, such as the exposed, living lime of houses in old countries.
