With a long career in the visual arts behind me, I have come to understand that for a work to come to life, one must have an intimate understanding of and respect for the material.
I was already working with porcelain at the age of 20. I returned to it about ten years ago. The translucency of the material allows every tiny detail to contribute to the piece’s unique character. The marks left behind and the traces of the work take on a delicate, diaphanous quality thanks to this capricious, challenging, yet rewarding material.
I devote the same care and attention to each of my pieces as I would to a painting or a sculpture. When I’m not satisfied, I start over.
