Ann-Marie Morin

Half poet, half ceramist, I use semi-sandstone for its flexibility, durability and traditional look to create utilitarian or decorative pieces that I call “narrative”. The visual effect is achieved by superimposing a variety of decorative techniques (silkscreen, linocut or punch). Literary creation has a strong influence on the decoration of my pieces. I sometimes include poetic verses from my writings, which I apply to the pieces using decals designed at home.

My current influences are varied, but mainly come from utilitarian art pottery. I'm particularly fond of Lesley McInally (Ont), Helen Beard (UK), Anna Lambert (UK), Molly Brotherton (FR) and Justin Rothshank (US). A more painterly approach, incorporating mixed media and words, is the direction I'm looking to pursue. The “Voilier” collection is my flagship collection. It's already well established in Sherbrooke and the surrounding area. The colors between blue and green in the glaze, which evoke the sea, occur in the third firing. They vary considerably from one firing to the next, but also according to the position of the piece in the kiln, which contributes to the uniqueness of each piece.

A look at what you will discover.
