Julie Lavoie Céramiste

My work revolves mainly around the manufacture of utilitarian tableware and tea objects. Most of my pieces are fired in a high-temperature wood kiln. This type of firing, though ancestral, allows me to combine tradition and modernity. The effect of the passing flame and the accumulation of ash give the pieces an aesthetic unique to this process.

My work is distinguished not only by wood firing, but also by the finesse of the pieces and the simplicity of the shapes, leaving the glaze and the effects of flame and ash all the space they need to tell their story.

Everyday objects, tea-time, clay, water, fire, the forest, plants and minerals, the passage of time through the light of day, the seasons and a firing, are all elements that interrelate in my practice and form an integral part of my approach.

A look at what you will discover.
