Gatinho Ceramica

Trevor Smith, the creator behind Gatinho Ceramica, is a ceramist who lives and works in and works in Montreal. After following an atypical path including music, pastry making and archives, he found in ceramics a way of creating, exploring and thinking with his hands.

His main inspiration is the simple curve found in a smile a smile, a cat sleeping in a ball or the contour of a hand supporting the head of a newborn baby. The memory of gestures and the relationship between a piece the hand that manipulates it are at the heart of his practice. His research into repetition of forms are like arpeggios in stoneware. He is fascinated by the of functional objects and everyday rituals. His intention is use his pieces with the same affection with which he made them.
